The name of the aerospace company SAAB AB is a bit odd. AB is a Swedish abbreviation for Aktiebolag - meaning limited company or corporation in English. The name SAAB itself is an abbreviation for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolag ( AB) . That means the full name for this Swedish aerospace company when broken out is effectively Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolag Aktiebolag - which in English reads : Swedish Aeroplane Corporation Corporation.
The former automobile division was SAAB Automobile AB, or, Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolag Automobile Aktiebolag - in English this reads : Swedish Aeroplane Corporation Automobile Corporation.
I can’t seem to help but find this amusing...

I keep thinking back to my old hometown baseball team, the Angels. They changed the name to T he Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim, but we’ll just leave that part off for now...), which, when translated, means ‘the the angels angels’.
Stupid stupid...

The letters “SAAB” are derived from Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolag, but they no longer stand for that anymore. Officially, the company’s name is just SAAB AB, the letters no long mean anything.
Just like BP, AT&T, PNC, Scouts BSA, FMC, etc.

That’s another one where I wish I could have been present at whatever meeting they had to decide on t he name. Because it feels like nobody was there to speak up an d say OUT LOUD the name of the make, followed by the proposed model name.

They named the 2, 3, 5, and 6 like that, so at some point th ey had to decide that was good, right? I didn’t mind it too much when my brother had a 6.

I just refer to my car as a Mazda5, instead of as a Mazda Mazda5, figuring it was understood who the manufacturer was; I’d say it’s a mononym. Y eah, it’s kind of a silly naming convention, but you can figure it out pretty quickly. Nobody is ever going to ask if it’s a Honda Mazda5, right?

Is this somewhat like my referring to those inexpensive Italian cars as FIATs, and not Fiats?

In late 60's Finland’s first (and still the only) car factory was established. This was a joint company founded by Swedish Saab and Finnish Valmet. The new company was called Saab-Valmet. Like you said Saab stands for Swedish Aeroplane Corporation but Valmet is also an abreviation and it stands for VALtion METallitehtaat (state’s metal factories).
So Saab-Valmet would stand for Swedish Aeroplane Corporation - State’s metal Factories.
Of course as it was official a Finnish company so the whole name was Oy Saab-Valmet Ab. “Oy” means corporation in Finnish and “Ab” is the same in Swedish. We have two official languages and “Oy something Ab” is how we name companies.
So the whole mean would be Corporation Swedish Aeroplane Corporation - State’s Metal Factories Corporation.

Yeah, the Valmet part also made firearms. During my military service I had the military version of the M76 called RK 62 (RK = rynnäkkökivääri = assa ul t rifle) . It still the official Finnish service rifle even though new ones haven’t been made since 90's, Instead the old ones have been modernized .
The y also made tractors, ai rcraft, trains etc but currently they only make heavy industry stuff (mostly paper machines ). The car factory of course still exists carrying the name of Valmet-Automotive. The y are building some M-B models currently.
